CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's volleyball team rallied back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Goldey-Beacom College 3-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. The Cougars claim the top spot in the North Division with the Lightning securing #4 in the South Division. The teams will meet in the CACC Championship Quarterfinals on Tuesday night at the Newman Center.
The Cougars improve to 22-7 overall and finish the season at 16-3 in the CACC. The Lightning fall to 12-18 overall and finish conference play at 10-9.
Caldwell took the opening set 25-21. Goldey-Beacom rallied back to take the next two sets 25-20 and 25-15. The Cougars took the final two sets 25-17 and 15-9 to win the match.
Senior
Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) led Caldwell with 11 kills and four total blocks (two solo), while senior
Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) chipped in five kills, two aces, 15 digs and one solo block.
Freshman
Marina Schlaepfer (Aurora, Colo.) totaled four kills and 12 digs, while senior
Jessica Mitchell (Plainfield, Ill.) totaled 10 digs, five assists, three aces. Sophomore
Kathleen Compagno (Orland Park, Ill.) posted seven kills and six blocks, while sophomore
Avery Stanechewski (Tampa, Fla.) finished with seven kills. Senior
Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, Texas) finished with 19 assists and four digs, while junior
Alyssa Ayala (Wantagh, N.Y.) totaled eight assists, two aces and three digs.
Senior
Melissa Sheehan (Roselle Park, N.J.) contributed five digs, while senior
Danyelle Morales (Toms River, N.J.) recorded three digs.
Caldwell volleyball recognized its six seniors prior to the match. Janssen, Auyong, Bennett, Mitchell, Sheehan and Morales were honored for their playing careers.
The North #1 Cougars will host the South #4 Lightning in the Quarterfinals of the CACC Championship on Tuesday, November 14 at 7 pm at the Newman Center.
