CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's soccer junior Joaquin Escudero (San Sebastian, Spain) netted two goals as the Cougars battled to a 2-2 tie against Bloomfield College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. The Cougars secure the eighth and final playoff spot in the CACC Championship and will travel to the top seed Jefferson on Monday, October 30 in the CACC Quarterfinals.
 
The Cougars finish the regular season at 6-9-3 overall and 4-6-2 in the CACC, while the Bears stand at 11-3-2 and 8-2-2 in conference play.
 
Both teams did their scoring in the opening half as the Bears struck first with a goal in the fifth minute of play.
 
The Cougars rallied back in the 14th minute of play as they evened the score. Junior Tom Yorston (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom) crossed the ball in front of the net that Escudero chipped into the net to tie the score at 1-1.
 
Caldwell took the lead ten minutes later as the Yorston-Escudero duo put the Cougars in front. Yorston dribbled the ball into the box and crossed to Escudero, who netted his sixth goal of the season to give Caldwell a 2-1 lead.
 
Bloomfield pulled even two minutes later with a goal to tie the score at 2-2. The Bears held a 9-7 shot advantage through regulation but the Cougars outshot the Bears in the first overtime 3-1. Neither team attempted a shot in the second overtime as the game ended in a draw.  
 
Freshman Nils Svere (Lier, Norway) finished with five saves in the game.
 
Caldwell's season continues as they locked up the final playoff spot in next week's CACC Championship. The #8 Cougars will travel to #1 Jefferson in the CACC Quarterfinals on Monday, October 30 at 2 pm.
