PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The #8 seed Caldwell University men's soccer team came up short to top seed Jefferson Rams 1-0 in the Quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship.
The Cougars end their season at 6-10-3, while the Rams improve to 14-4-1 and advance to the CACC Championship semifinals on Friday.
Jefferson netted the lone goal of the game in the 15th minute off a corner kick. The teams battled through a tight game throughout as the first half shots were even at 6-6 and corner kicks were tied at 2-2.
Caldwell posted a pair of corner kicks and had a couple of scoring chances early in the second half. Freshman
Alessandro Canino (Parma, Italy) recorded a pair of shots for Caldwell in that stretch.
The Cougars closed the game with scoring chances. Over the final 12 minutes, Caldwell had four corner kicks and four shots but could not come up with the tying goal.
Caldwell held the edge in shots for the game 12-10 and corner kicks 8-5. Canino finished with three shots in game, while senior
Sam Odell (Walton-On-Thames, England) added two shots. Juniors
Joaquin Escudero (San Sebastian, Spain),
Tom Yorston (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom) and
Italo Cardoso (Monroe, N.J.) also netted two shots each for the Cougars.
Freshman
Nils Svere (Lier, Norway) totaled six saves in the game.
