CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's soccer team rallied from a second half deficit to finish with a 1-1 draw against Goldey-Beacom College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action.
The Cougars move to 7-8-1 overall and secure a spot in the CACC Tournament with a 6-4-1 conference mark. The Lightning stand at 10-4-2 and end their conference schedule at 8-3-1.
The teams combined for seven shots in the opening half with Caldwell holding a slight 4-3 advantage. The Cougars and the Lightning failed to score in the first half as they headed to half in scoreless tie.
Goldey-Beacom struck first as they scored their goal in the 56th minute of play to jump out in front 1-0.
Caldwell rallied back in the 66th minute as a corner kick from junior
Samantha Pereira (Union, N.J.) was touched into the net by junior
Stephanie Faust (Grundy City, Iowa) to tie the game at 1-1. Both teams had a couple of scoring chances late in the half but the game headed to overtime.
The Lightning attempted two shots in overtime, while the Cougars recorded one shot but the game ended tied at 1-1.
Sophomore
Daniela Lucca (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) finished with five saves.
Prior to the game, the soccer program honored its two seniors in
Shelagh Kerrisk (Keansburg, N.J.) and
Kayla Troisi (Hazlet, N.J.) for their contributions during their careers.
The Cougars wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, October 25 as they travel to Felician University for a CACC clash at 5:00 pm.
