Jennings Nets 16 Points as Men’s Basketball Falls to Holy Family

CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's basketball freshman Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) netted 16 points but the Cougars fell 77-68 to Holy Family University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action.
 
The Cougars fall to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the CACC, while the Tigers improve to 7-8 and 5-1 in conference play.
 
Holy Family connected on a pair of triples in the first two minutes to start the game with a 6-0 lead. The Cougars battled back to even score at 13 following a Jennings trifecta at the 13:54 mark. Junior Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) put Caldwell in the lead with a pair of free throws with 11:09 to play in the opening half.
 
The Tigers retook the lead and they extended their advantage to nine points with 2:33 remaining in the first half. Dorn connected on a pair of free throws to cut the score to 36-29 at the 2:03 mark. Holy Family pushed their lead to 44-32 heading into halftime.
 
Caldwell rallied early in the second half as they trimmed the score down to nine points at 50-41 with 14:34 left in the game. Senior Austin Woods (Milford, Conn.) connected on a basket, while sophomore Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) drained a triple. Freshman Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) tallied four points including a dunk to pull the Cougars to within nine points.
 
Holy Family connected on three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to push their lead back to double digits. The Tigers maintained their lead to the final buzzer.
 
Jennings drained four triples as he finished with 16 points, two rebounds and three assists. Dorn shot 10-for-12 from the free throw line as he totaled 12 points, seven boards, two assists and four steals. Lutterman posted 12 points and six boards, while Harrison tallied nine points, five rebounds and five assists. Woods netted eight points and four rebounds.
 
The Cougars are back on the court on Tuesday, January 10 as they host Chestnut Hill College in a CACC clash at 7:30 pm at the Newman Center.
