WILMINGTON, Del.- Freshman 
Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) totaled 19 points but the Caldwell University men's basketball team came up short to Goldey-Beacom College 84-82 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
 
The Cougars fall to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the CACC, while the Lightning improve to 9-3 and 4-2 in conference play.
 
Caldwell led by seven points midway through the opening half at 24-17. Jennings and freshman 
Daan Vianen (Nieuwegein, Netherlands) each drained a pair of triples to help the Cougars build an early lead.
 
The Lightning rallied as they tied the score at 30 with 3:33 left in the half. Goldey-Beacom pulled ahead 40-34 heading into halftime. Junior 
Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Jennings each totaled eight points in the first half.
 
Caldwell trailed by six points at 44-38 early in the second half. The Cougars rallied back to tie the game at 53 with 13:59 left in the game. Dorn dropped in four points, while freshman 
Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) chipped in nine points to rally Caldwell. Lutterman's three-point play evened the score at 53.
 
Goldey-Beacom pulled ahead by as much as 11 points at 66-55 with 10 minutes left in the game. The Cougars battled back as they closed the gap to three points at 81-78 with 1:37 remaining in the game.
 
Caldwell tied the score with under a minute to go as freshman 
Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) connected on three free throws with 18 seconds left to even the score at 82. The Lightning connected on a pair of free throws with five seconds on the clock to take the win.
 
Jennings led the Cougars with 19 points, three rebounds and two assists. Lutterman chipped in 17 points and nine boards, while Dorn tallied 16 points, seven rebounds and nine assists. Vianen shot 4-for-5 from downtown as he finished with 12 points. Covington netted 10 points, while senior 
Austin Woods (Milford, Conn.) totaled eight points, nine rebounds and three blocks.  
 
The Cougars return to their home court as they host Holy Family University on Saturday, January 7 at 3 pm at the Newman Center.
