Women’s Soccer Draws Molloy

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.- Sophomores Emily Valerian (Roseland, N.J.) and Jessica LaConde (Huntington Beach, Calif.) each scored for the Cougars as the Caldwell University women's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw against the Molloy College Lions. The Cougars move to 0-2-1, while the Lions stand at 0-2-1.

The Cougars struck first as Valerian netted her first tally of the season in the 24th minute.

The scoring picked up in the second half as the Lions pulled even early in the second half. Caldwell answered in the 69th minute as LaConde found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Amanda Wroblewski (North Babylon, N.Y.). Molloy pulled even three minutes later and the teams headed to overtime.

Molloy held the edge in shots in the extra time 4-0 but neither team back the net as the match ended tied at 2-2. For the game, Molloy outshot the Cougars 19-10 but Caldwell held the advantage in corner kicks 4-3.

In net, sophomore goalie Mary Kanzler (East Northport, N.Y.) recorded eight saves in the draw.

The Cougars open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Saturday, September 10 as they travel to Philadelphia University for a noon match against the Rams.
