CALDWELL, N.J.- Junior
Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) totaled 13 kills to help lead the Caldwell University volleyball team to a 3-0 win against Concordia College. The Cougars earn their third win in a row as they improve to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in the CACC, while the Clippers fall to 0-7 and 0-5 in conference play.
Caldwell battled in a close opening set, trailing 16-15, the Cougars netted eight points in a row on their way to a 25-17 win. The Cougars controlled the action in the second set as they won 25-9. Caldwell built a 19-9 lead in the third set but the Clippers battled back to take a 25-24 lead. The teams exchanged points but the Cougars pulled away late, winning 31-29.
In the victory, Janssen led the Cougars with 13 kills along with six blocks, while junior
Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) chipped in eight kills and seven digs. Freshman
Avery Stanechewski (Tampa, Fla.) posted seven kills and a career-high eight blocks, while fellow freshman
Kathleen Compagno (Orland Park, Ill.) added five kills.
Sophomore
Jordan Hoffman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) posted 15 assists and five digs, while junior
Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, Texas) finished with 14 assists, four digs and two aces. Junior
Jessica Mitchell (Plainfield, Ill.) posted a team-best 23 digs along with two aces.
The Cougars are back in action as they travel to West Chester University on Thursday, September 29 at 7 pm.
