CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's tennis team slipped past the Molloy College Lions 5-4 in a non-conference match. The Cougars improve to 3-2 overall, while the Lions fall to 0-5 on the season.
Caldwell swept doubles play as they picked up three wins in the match. Junior
Rebecca Ryan (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) and junior
Valeria Otarola (Lima, Peru) teamed up at the top doubles, winning 8-6. At #2 doubles, freshman
Janis Jimenez (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) and junior
Shannon Donaldson (Bonita Springs, Fla.) won their match 8-2.
The Cougars completed their doubles sweep as senior
Koumudi Thirunagaru (San Ramon, Calif.) and senior
Debra Pellegrino (Valley Stream, N.Y.) took the win at #3 doubles 8-5.
Caldwell posted a pair of wins in singles play to win the match. Otarola won 6-1, 6-1 at #3 singles, while Donaldson won in straight sets at #4 singles 6-0, 6-0.
The Cougars travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College on Thursday, September 22 for a non-conference match at 3 pm.
