EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.- Junior
Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) posted 24 kills in two matches as the Caldwell University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Day One of the East Stroudsburg University. The Cougars fell to Pace University 3-0 (25-27, 26-28, 20-25) and bounced back with a 3-0 victory against Bluefield St. College 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-17). Caldwell opens their season at 1-1.
In their opening match loss to the Setters, Janssen tallied 19 kills along with three total blocks and nine digs. Junior
Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, Texas) totaled 26 assists and seven digs, while junior
Jessica Mitchell (Plainfield, Ill.) chipped in 24 digs and two aces. Junior
Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) posted three kills and 12 digs, while freshman
Kathleen Compagno (Orland Park, Ill.) added six kills and two blocks.
The Cougars posted their first victory of the season as they downed the Big Blues in three sets. Auyong led the Cougars with 13 kills along with eight digs. Sophomore
Jordan Hoffman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) totaled six kills, four digs and eight assists, while Mitchell recorded 14 digs and three aces. Bennett led the team with 14 digs along with two aces and five digs, while Janssen chipped in five kills. Compagno finished with four kills and three digs.
The Cougars wrap up play at the ESU Tournament on Saturday, September 3 as they take on Lincoln University at 4 pm and the host Warriors at 6 pm. Â
