Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Yorston Nets Second Game-Winner of the Season to Lift Men’s Soccer to Win against Chestnut Hill

CALDWELL, N.J.- Sophomore Tom Yorston (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom) scored his second game-winning goal of the season as the Caldwell University men's soccer team defeated the Chestnut Hill College Griffins 3-2 in double overtime in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action. The Cougars improve to 3-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the CACC, while the Griffins fall to 0-5-0 and 0-3-0 in conference play.

The Cougars got off to a fast start as senior Jakub Havlak (Prague, Czech Republic) put Caldwell on the board in the opening minute of play. Sophomore Italo Cardoso (Monroe, N.J.)  chipped the ball into Havlak who found the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead. Chestnut Hill pulled even in the 38th minute of play as the teams were tied at 1-1 at halftime.

Chestnut Hill took the lead in the second minute of the second half as they pushed ahead 2-1. The Cougars battled back as freshman Luca Caccoittolo (Boonton, N.J.) netted the equalizer in the 69th minute off an assist from freshman Darren Appanah (Enfield, England). Both teams had opportunities to break the tie in regulation including a Griffins shot in the final minute but the game remained tied and headed to overtime.

The Cougars got a good chance in the first overtime but a header hit the post and the game moved to a second overtime. Caldwell stepped up the offensive pressure as they had three early shots on goals in the second overtime. Their efforts paid off as sophomore Joaquin Escudero (San Sebastian, Spain) chipped the ball to Yorston in the box who kicked it past the Chestnut Hill goalie to life the Cougars to a thrilling double overtime victory.

Junior Fritz Meister (Flaach, Switzerland) played strong on net, recording three saves on the day.

The Cougars travel to Bloomfield College on Wednesday, September 21 as they take on the Bears under the lights at 7 pm.
