Men’s Soccer Nets Late Tying Goal, Earn Draw against Felician

CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's soccer freshman Darren Appanah (Enfield, England) netted the game-tying goal with 14 seconds left in regulation as the Cougars earned a draw against Felician University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action. The Cougars move to 2-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the CACC, while the Golden Falcons stand at 0-3-2 and 0-0-1 in conference play.

The teams played a defensive game in the opening 45 minutes as each team attempted one shot on goal and combined for seven shots in a scoreless first half.
The offenses got going in the second half with the Cougars striking first. Junior Patrick Grey (Auckland, New Zealand) scored off a corner kick by sophomore Kyle Hill (New Milford, N.J.) to give Caldwell the early lead in the 62nd minute.

Felician rallied with a pair of goals to tie the game. The Golden Falcons evened the game at 1-1 in the 73rd minute and took the lead in the 82nd minute for a 2-1 advantage.

The Cougars battled back and found the equalizer in the waning seconds of regulation. Caldwell was awarded a free kick near midfield. Junior Fritz Meister (Flaach, Switzerland) put the ball in play down the middle. Sophomore Italo Cardoso (Monroe, N.J.) received the ball and kicked it to Appanah who headed the ball in the net for force overtime.

In the two extra periods, the Cougars recorded four shots on goals, including one hitting the cross bar. The teams battled to two scoreless overtime periods and the match ended in a draw.

In net, Meister recorded four saves in the game.  

The Cougars host Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, September 17 at 1:30 pm at Caldwell Field.
