LAKEWOOD, N.J.- The Caldwell University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Day Two of the Georgian Court University Tournament. The Cougars rallied back to defeat Bentley University in five sets in their first match of the afternoon but fell in three sets to NYIT to close out the tournament.
Caldwell fell behind to the Falcons as they dropped the first two sets 27-25 and 25-18. The Cougars rallied back 25-19 and 25-17, before taking the fifth set 15-11 for the victory. In the loss to NYIT, Caldwell fell in three sets 25-19, 25-20 and 25-20.
In their win against Bentley, junior
Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) totaled 11 kills and four blocks, while junior
Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) netted seven kills. Junior
Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, Texas) finished with 15 assists, while junior
Jessica Mitchell (Plainfield, Ill.) chipped in 11 digs.
In their loss to NYIT, Auyong led the Cougars with 14 kills, while Janssen finished with six kills. Sophomore
Melanie Krpec (Katy, Texas) chipped in three kills and 18 digs, while sophomore
Jordan Hoffman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied three kills, seven assists, three blocks and six digs. Freshman
Kathleen Compagno (Orland Park, Ill.) recorded four blocks in the loss. Bennett totaled 16 assists and nine digs, while Mitchell led the Cougars with 19 digs. Â
The Cougars travel to Queens College on Tuesday, September 13 for a non-conference match against the Knights at 7:30 pm. Â Â Â Â
