Cardoso Nets Double Overtime Game-Winner as Men’s Soccer Downs Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Sophomore Italo Cardoso (Monroe, N.J.) netted the game-winning goal in double overtime to lead the Caldwell University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory against Philadelphia University in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener. The Cougars improve to 2-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the CACC, while the Rams fall to 0-2-1 and 0-1-0 in conference play.

The teams played a defensive first half as the Rams had two shots on goals to none for the Cougars. The game was scoreless after the first 45 minutes of play.
The scoring picked up in the second half as sophomore Tom Yorston (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom) put the Cougars on the board in the 48th minute off an assist from freshman Darren Appanah (Enfield, England).

The Rams answered in the 73rd minute as they tied the game at one to force overtime.

In the first overtime, the Rams outshot the Cougars 3-1 with two big saves by junior Fritz Meister (Flaach, Switzerland) to preserve the tie game. Caldwell earned the win 1:16 into the second overtime as Cardoso came up with the game-winner off an assist from freshman Erik Molin (Sundsvall, Sweden).
