NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.- Senior
Jakub Havlak (Prague, Czech Republic) netted the Cougars lone goal as the Caldwell University men's soccer team fell in their 2016 season opener 5-1 to #19 Merrimack College. The Cougars open the season at 0-1, while the Warriors improve to 1-0.
The Cougars took the early lead as Havlat netted a goal in the fourth minute to put Caldwell in front early in the game. Freshman
Filip Axelsson (Kristinehamn, Sweden) earned his first collegiate point as he assisted on the goal.
The nationally ranked Warriors tied the game in the 18
th minute and took the lead in the 33
rd minutes. Merrimack added two more goals before halftime and tacked on one in the second half.
In net, junior
Fritz Meister (Flaach, Switzerland) played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves.
The Cougars wrap up play at the Merrimack Kickoff Classic as they take on Bentley University on the Merrimack campus on Saturday, September 3 at 12 pm.
