Baseball Falls to Chestnut Hill in CACC Doubleheader

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Caldwell University baseball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader to Chestnut Hill on Sunday afternoon. The Cougars fall to 9-25 and 5-15 in the CACC, while the Griffins improve to 23-18 and 13-6 in conference play.

Chestnut Hill took the opening game 9-0 and the Griffins won the nightcap 4-1.

In the opener, Caldwell was limited to four hits as sophomore Justin Jeannette (East Hanover, NJ), sophomore Paul Marinello (Freehold, NJ) and sophomore Alexander Lore (Staten Island, NY) each went 1-for-3 in the game.

Sophomore Justin Picinic (River Vale, NJ) fell to 0-4 as he tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits, while striking out two. Senior Richard Evaniecki (Bloomfield, NJ) pitched one inning, allowing four unearned runs on five hits, while sophomore Charles Grade (Sterling Heights, MI) tossed 2/3 of an inning in relief.

In the nightcap, senior Dominick Orlando (Manalapan, NJ) accounted for the lone Caldwell run as he ripped a single in the fourth to score sophomore Kevin Goldman (Valley Stream, NY). Goldman was 2-for-4 in game two for the Cougars.

Sophomore Joshua Caba (Belleville, NJ), falls to 1-4 on the season as he allowed three runs on five hits in five innings of work and struck out six. Freshman Anthony Tornatore (Fairfield, NJ) went 1 2/3 innings, allowing one hit and struck out one, while sophomore Christopher Cerf (Ramsey, NJ) pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits and recorded one strikeout.

The Cougars host Molloy College on Tuesday, May 3 at 2 pm at the Kiwanis Oval.
