CALDWELL, N.J.- Junior
Michael Bernstein (Staten Island, NY) drove in a pair of runs but the Caldwell University baseball team fell to Molloy College 12-6 in a non-conference game.
The Cougars fall to 9-25 overall, while the Lions improve to 28-16.
Molloy jumped out to an early advantage with four runs in the second and one more in the third for a 5-0 lead. Caldwell rallied with three in the third with Bernstein driving in two runs with a single.
The Cougars added a pair of runs in the fourth to even the score. Freshman
Mason Marino (Brooklyn, NY) tripled in a run, while senior
Mike LaTorraca (West Caldwell, NJ) used a squeeze bunt to score Marino to tie the score at 5-5.
The teams traded runs in the fifth as senior
Dominick Orlando (Manalapan, NJ) singled home a run to keep the game tied at 6-6.
Molloy rallied with four runs in the sixth and chipped in a run in the seventh and eighth to take the win. Freshman
Anthony Frascati (Bloomfield, NJ) got the start, going four innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and struck out six. Junior
Sagar Patel (Parsippany, NJ) got the loss, going one inning, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits to fall to 0-1. Sophomore
Charles Grade (Sterling Heights, MI) tossed 2 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and registered two strikeouts. Freshman
Anthony Tornatore (Fairfield, NJ) closed out the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and struck out one.
Caldwell wraps up their 2016 season with a home doubleheader against Queens College on Thursday, May 5. Between games one and two, Caldwell Baseball will recognize its graduating seniors.
