WEST CALDWELL, N.J.- Sophomore
Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, NY) totaled six points, while sophomore
Emily Fey (Center Moriches, NY) netted five goals as the Caldwell University Women's Lacrosse team outlasted the Nyack College Warriors 13-11 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference thriller. The Cougars improve to 3-4 overall and remain unbeaten in the CACC at 3-0. The Warriors drop to 3-6 and 1-1 in conference play.
Caldwell got off to a fast start as they scored five of the first seven goals of the game to take a 5-2 lead. Freshmen
Rachel Lucia (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) netted a goal and an assist, while Fey, Schenck, freshman
Maryellen McCarthy (Levittown, NY) and sophomore
Mariah Wynn (Clearwater, FL) each found the back of the net to give the Cougars the advantage.
The Warriors rallied with five of the next six goals to take a 7-6 lead at the 8:43 mark of the opening half. Junior
Courtney Donlon (East Brunswick, NJ) broke the streak with a goal off a Schenck assist. Caldwell retook the lead as Fey and sophomore
Jessica Minuto (Levittown, NY) tallied goals to put the Cougars back in the lead at 8-7 Nyack tacked on a late goal and the score was tied at halftime at 8-8.
The teams traded goals to start the second half as Fey and Donlon kept the Cougars in the game with tying goals. Nyack took an 11-10 lead with 11:09 to play but the Cougars got the offense going as they rallied with a trio of goals in the final eight minutes. Fey scored on a power play with 7:39 left in the game to even the score at 11. McCarthy added a goal 35 seconds late to put Caldwell back in the lead. Fey capped her outstanding day with an insurance goal with 3:20 remaining in the game to seal the deal.
For the Cougars, Schenck led the way with six points on a goal and five assists, while leading the team with four draw controls. Fey chipped in five goals, while Donlon recorded two goals and two assists. Minuto posted one goal and three assists, while Lucia totaled two points along with three draw controls. In net, freshman
Elizabeth Ruedemann (Monmouth Junction, NJ) played all 60 minutes, totaling 13 saves.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, April 5 as they travel to Wilmington University for a CACC clash 4 pm game.
