CALDWELL, N.J.- The #19 Caldwell University softball team posted a pair of shutouts as they swept a non-conference doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas. The Cougars took the opener 8-0 in six innings, while they took the nightcap 8-0 in five innings.
The Cougars won their 11th in a row to improve their record to 24-10 on the season, while the Spartans fall to 12-21.
Senior
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ) went 5-for-6 in the two games with four RBI and three runs scored. She posted all four RBI in the opener as she had an RBI single in the first and a three-run double in the fifth. Sophomore
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, NJ) blasted a fourth inning solo homerun which is her 12th this season.
Senior pitcher
Amber Padilla (Chino, CA) tossed a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts to improve to 13-2 on the season.
In the nightcap, freshman
Hannah Polak (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) went 2-for-3 with two RBI. She drove in a run in the fourth with a double and a run in the fifth with a single. Junior
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, FL) and Monasseri both had sacrifice flies in the nightcap, while freshman
Carly Testa (Sicklerville, NJ) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Junior pitcher
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, NJ) improved to 10-7 overall as she tossed a complete game three-hit shutout with four strikeouts.
The Cougars host Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday, April 16 for a CACC doubleheader at 12 pm.
