HILLBURN, N.Y.- Sophomore
Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, NY) netted a program record six points and record five goals to help lead the Caldwell University Women's Lacrosse team to a 19-10 victory against Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up. The 19 goals by the Cougars also represents program record. Caldwell improves to 2-4 overall and remains unbeaten in the CACC at 2-0. The Chargers fall to 0-6 and 0-1 in conference play.
Freshman
Maryellen McCarthy (Levittown, NY) got the Cougars on the board in the first minute of play. Dominican answered with a pair of goals to take a 2-1. Caldwell responded with six unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead. Freshman
Rachel Lucia (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) and junior
Courtney Donlon (East Brunswick, NJ) each scored twice, while sophomore
Emily Fey (Center Moriches, NY) and sophomore
Mariah Wynn (Clearwater, FL) each netted one to help the Cougars extend to a five goal lead.
The teams traded goals as Wynn netted her second goal of the afternoon. The Chargers closed the half with three goals to close the gap to 8-6 at halftime.
Caldwell took control early in the second half as they scored five goals in the first 13 minutes as Schenck added to her record breaking day with a pair of goals. Donlon, Fey and Wynn also scored to push the Cougar lead to 14-8 near the midway point of the second half.
Dominican broke the string of Cougar goals at the 12:02 mark but Caldwell continued their record output with four of the final five goals of the contest. Schenck tallied two more goals and registered an assist on a late tally as part of her career day. Donlon and Fey added goals, while sophomore
Daniela Costanzo (East Brunswick, NJ) capped the scoring with a goal at the 4:35 mark.
For the Cougars, Schenck totaled six points on five goals and one assist. Donlon chipped in five points on three goals and two assists, while Wynn and Fey each netted three goals. Lucia and McCarthy each back the back of the net twice in the victory. In net, freshman
Elizabeth Ruedemann (Monmouth Junction, NJ) recorded 13 saves in 55 minutes, while freshman
Nancy Benedetto (Jupiter, FL) posted four saves in four-plus minutes of action.
Schenck six points and five goals broke the program's single game records set by Fey (5P, 4G) on April 6, 2015 against Nyack College. The 19 goals scored also shattered the previous mark of 14 also set in the Nyack game last season.
The Cougars look to continue their solid start in conference play as they host Nyack in a CACC clash on Saturday, April 2 at Essex Valley School Athletic Complex in West Caldwell at 12 pm.
