Schenck Nets Three Goals to lead Women’s Lacrosse to Win against Post

WEST CALDWELL, N.J.- Sophomore Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, NY) netted a trio of goals to help lead the Caldwell University Women's Lacrosse team to a 13-4 win against the Post University Eagles in both teams Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference openers.
 
The Cougars improve to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the CACC, while the Eagles fall to 0-6 and 0-1 in conference play.
 
Caldwell took control with three early goals to take the lead. Schenck netted the first goal of the game at the 27:46 mark of the first half. Freshmen Rachel Lucia (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) and Maryellen McCarthy (Levittown, NY) added goals just over a minute late for a 3-0 Cougar lead.
 
Post got on the board at the 22:05 mark but Caldwell answered with three more goals. McCarthy netted her second of the day, while Schenck and junior Courtney Donlon (East Brunswick, NJ) added goals to extend the Cougar lead to 6-1.
 
The Eagles added a goal at the 10:18 mark but the Cougars added to their lead before halftime. Lucia and sophomore Emily Fey (Center Moriches, NY) added goals for Caldwell in the final 10 minutes. Post tacked on a late goal but the Cougars led 9-3 at halftime.
 
The second half saw less scoring by both sides but the Cougars outscored the Eagles 5-1 in the final 30 minutes. Schenck tallied her third goal of the day near the midway point of the half, while sophomore Daniela Costanzo (East Brunswick, NJ) netted a pair of goals for Caldwell. Fey scored her second of the afternoon, while sophomore Jessica Minuto (Levittown, NY) scored late for Caldwell.
 
For the Cougars, Lucia finished with two goals and two assists, while Schenck tallied three goals. Schenck and Fey totaled four draw controls each, while Lucia totaled a team-high three groundballs.
 
Head Coach Casey Denk, in her first season, earned her first collegiate victory as a head coach.
 
In net, freshman Elizabeth Ruedemann (Monmouth Junction, NJ) recorded 12 saves in 57+ minutes between the pipes to improve her record to 1-4. Freshman Nancy Benedetto (Jupiter, FL) came on in relief in net for the final two and a half minutes.
 
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, March 30 as they take on Dominican College at the Torne Valley Sports Complex for a 4 pm game.
