CLERMONT, Fla.- The #15 Caldwell University Softball team defeated Franklin Pierce 5-3 but fell to Wayne St. University of Day 4 of their Florida Spring trip. The Cougars remain at .500 at 4-4, while the Warriors improve to 14-2 and the Ravens fall to 1-4 on the season.
The Ravens struck in the second inning with a pair of runs to take an early lead. The Cougars got a run in their half of the second as senior
Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA) scored on a delayed double steal.
Caldwell took the lead in the third as they plated a pair of runs. Senior
Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL) hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2. Freshman
Kate Nichols (Acworth, GA) reached on an error to score another run for a 3-2 Cougar lead.
Franklin Pierce tied the game in the fifth inning but the Caldwell rallied in their half of the sixth inning. Junior
Gracie Sullivan (Elmont, IL) led off with a double and scored on a double by freshman
Hannah Polak (Palm Beach Gardens, FL). Junior
Amy Hickman (Jackson, NJ) reached on an error to score Polak for an insurance run.

Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, NJ) earned her first win of the season as she tossed a complete game. Ponto (1-3) allowed three runs (one earned) and struck out six.
In the 3-0 loss the Wayne St., Caldwell was limited to four hits with sophomore
Kiahna Silva (Etiwanda, CA) registering the lone extra base hit with a double. Senior
Amber Padilla (Chino, CA) lost her first game on the mound this season as she went 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and struck out four.
The Cougars wrap up their Florida spring trip as they travel to #11 St. Leo University for a doubleheader at 11 am. Â
