CLERMONT, Fla.- The #15 Caldwell University Softball team wrapped up their Florida spring trip as they dropped a doubleheader to Saint Leo University 4-1 and 8-0 in five innings. The Cougars fall to 4-6 on the season, while the Lions improve to 23-1.
In the opener, the Lions got on the board with runs in the first and third inning. Caldwell got their lone run in the fifth as senior
Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL) singled with two outs. Senior
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ) doubled in McCready to cut the score to 3-1. Saint Leo added a run in the sixth and held on for a opening game win.
Junior
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, NJ) went the distance as she allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and struck out two.
In the nightcap, Caldwell was limited to two hits in the game as the Lions got on the board with five runs in the opening inning. Saint Leo added a run in the third, fourth and fifth inning to take the victory.
Reighn tossed 1/3 of an inning, allowing four runs. Freshman
Alexa Toner (Mt. Laurel, NJ) came on in relief, pitching four innings, allowing four runs on nine hits. Â
The Cougars open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play this weekend as they host Wilmington University in a doubleheader starting at noon at Caldwell Field. Â
