PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Senior
Nicole Angelo (Mt. Laurel, NJ) netted 21 points to help lead the Caldwell University women's basketball team to their seventh straight victory on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars defeated the Chestnut Hill College Griffins 85-65 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action.
The Cougars improve to 17-7 overall and 12-3 in the CACC, while the Griffins fall to 9-12 and 7-7 in conference play.
Caldwell got off to a fast shooting start as they shot 12-for-17 (70.6%) in the opening quarter. Sophomore
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, NY) netted 10 points in the opening quarter while Angelo drained a pair of triples to help the Cougars a 27-19 first quarter lead.
The Cougars opened the second quarter on a 16-4 run as the extended their lead to 20 points at the midway point. Drogsler netted a pair of three-pointers to lead Caldwell as the Cougars took a 46-30 lead at halftime.
Caldwell maintained their lead into the second half as the Griffins closed to within 13 points early in the third quarter. Angelo scored four points as part of a 10-3 burst to keep the Cougar lead in double figures. Caldwell held the lead to the final buzzer to grab their seventh victory in a row.
For the Cougars, Angelo shot 4-for-9 from downtown, totaling 21 points, three assists and two steals. Drogsler posted 19 points, eight boards and three steals, while junior
Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY) posting 12 points and three assists. Sophomore
Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, MA) tallied 10 points, seven assists and four rebounds, while sophomore
Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, MA) finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Caldwell outrebounded Chestnut Hill 37-30 and shot better from behind the arc 44.4% to 35.7%.
The Cougars return to the Newman Center on Saturday, February 13 as they host Goldey-Beacon College in a CACC clash at 1 pm.
