Angelo Joins 1,000 Point Club as Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Goldey-Beacom

CALDWELL, N.J.- Senior Nicole Angelo (Mt Laurel, NJ) joined the 1,000 point club on Saturday afternoon as the Caldwell University women's basketball teams earned their eighth win in a row against Goldey-Beacom College. The Cougars downed the Lightning 69-55 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
 
Caldwell improves to 18-7 overall and 13-3 in the CACC, while Goldey-Beacom falls to 8-17 and 8-8 in conference play.
 
Angelo etched her name in the Caldwell record book at the 3:58 mark of the fourth quarter as she drained her fifth triple of the afternoon. She becomes the 16th member of Caldwell's 1,000-point club and finished the game with 1,001 career points.
 
The Cougars jumped out to an early lead as they scored the first eight points of the game. The Lightning battled back as Caldwell led 15-11 after one quarter of play.
 
Goldey-Beacom trimmed the scored down to one point to start the second quarter but the Cougars took control with a 16-2 run over a three-minute stretch. Sophomore Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, NY) netted nine points, while Angelo drained a three-pointer in the run to help the Cougars build a 31-16 lead at the 6:48 mark. Caldwell held the lead the rest of the half as they took a 39-29 advantage into halftime.
 
The Cougars maintained their wire-to-wire lead as Goldey-Beacom only got as close as eight points over the final two quarters. Caldwell raced to finish as they stretched their win streak to eight in a row and maintain their hold on second place in the CACC North Division.
 
For the Cougars, Angelo shot 5-for-9 from downtown, totaling 15 points and four assists. Drogsler tallied 21 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, five blocks and four steals. Sophomore Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, MA) finished with 12 points, seven boards, seven assists and three steals, while junior Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY) posted 10 points and four rebounds.
 
The Cougars continue their season on Wednesday, February 17 as they travel to Concordia College in a CACC clash at 5 pm.
