Women’s Basketball Wins Sixth in a Row; Down Nyack 80-64

CALDWELL, N.J.- Junior Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY) led five players with double figures as the Caldwell University women's basketball team earned their sixth straight win 80-64 against Nyack College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
 
The Cougars improve to 16-7 overall and 11-3 in the CACC, while the Warriors fall to 6-14 and 4-9 in conference play.
 
Caldwell controlled the tempo from the opening tip as they built at 27-11 after one quarter of play. The Cougars shot 48% in the opening quarter while limiting Nyack to 25% shooting.
 
The Cougars stretched their lead to as much as 19 points early in the second quarter but the Warriors trimmed the score just before halftime. Nyack closed the gap to 38-32 with 2:28 left in the half. Sophomore Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, NY) netted a pair of late jumpers as Caldwell headed to the half in the lead at 42-32.
 
The Warriors cut the score down to seven points early in the second half but the Cougars pulled away with a 7-0 run. Pilla and sophomore Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, MA) each scored buckets as the Cougars pushed ahead by double digits at 49-35 at the 5:40 mark. The Cougars maintained a double digit lead the rest of the way as they remain in second place in the CACC North Division with their sixth consecutive victory.
 
For the Cougars, Pilla drained 3-of-5 from downtown to lead Caldwell with 17 points and three assists. Drogsler netted 12 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, while Sanders tallied 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. Senior Nicole Angelo (Mt Laurel, NJ) totaled 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while freshman Caroline Dunn (Denville, NJ) chipped in 14 points and five boards off the bench.
 
The Cougars hit the road this weekend as they travel to Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, February 6 for a 1 pm tip.
