WATERBURY, Conn.- Caldwell University men's basketball freshman
Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) scored a team-high 14 points but the Cougars lost their first conference game of the season 87-66 to Post University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
The Cougars fall to 6-3 and 3-1 in the CACC, while the Eagles improve to 4-6 and 3-2 in conference play.
The teams traded leads in the early going with the Cougars holding a 16-13 lead at the 15:03 mark of the opening half. Junior
Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) drained a pair of triples for eight points, while freshman
Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) added four points to guide the Cougars.
The Eagles scored 11 in a row to take the lead at 24-16 with 12:41 left in the half. Caldwell battled back with four points from sophomore
Thomas Elliott-Smith (Plymouth, England) and a jumper from senior
Austin Woods (Milford, Conn.) to close the gap to 25-22 near the midway point.
Post extended their lead to double digits but Caldwell cut the score down to nine points. The Eagles connected on a couple of late buckets as they led 44-31 at the break.
Jennings connected on three trifectas to start the second half to help Caldwell cut the score down to nine points at 49-40 with 16:08 remaining in the second half. Post netted the next seven points to go ahead by double digits and held the lead the rest of the way.
Jennings led the way with 14 points, three rebounds and two steals, while Dorn chipped in 12 points, three rebounds and two steals. Freshman
AJ Kittles (Glassboro, N.J.) netted 12 points and four boards, while Woods totaled eight points and three rebounds. Sophomore
Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) led the team in rebounds with seven.
The Cougars travel to Concordia College on Saturday, December 10 for a CACC clash against the Clippers at 4 pm.
