Dorn Tallies Season-High 31 Points as Men’s Basketball Downs Concordia

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.- Caldwell University men's basketball junior Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) tallied a season-high 31 points as the Cougars battled to a 96-91 victory against Concordia College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
 
The Cougars improve to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the CACC, while the Clippers fall to 2-8 and 1-3 in conference play.
 
The first half featured 13 lead changes and six ties as the teams battled through a closely contested opening 20 minutes. The Cougars held the early advantage as they built a five-point lead at 11-6 at the 15:50 mark.
 
The Clippers took the lead at 14-13 at the 12:40 mark as the teams exchanged leads the rest of the half. Caldwell rallied late in the half as sophomore Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) netted four free throws in the final two minutes to give the Cougars a 40-37 lead. The teams traded free throws in the final minute as Caldwell led by two at 42-40 at halftime.
 
Concordia got off to a fast start to open the second half as they pulled ahead by four points at 51-47 with 17:15 to play in the game. Freshman Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) drained a triple and added a jumper to put Caldwell back in front by a point. The teams traded leads several times with three times over the next seven minutes.
 
Dorn put the Cougars in front where they would stay with a trifecta at the 8:49 mark of the half. The Clippers kept it close down the stretch but Caldwell pushed ahead by as much as nine points at 89-80 with just over a minute to play.
 
Caldwell held off a late rally by the Clippers as freshman Daan Vianen (Nieuwegein, Netherlands) went 3-for-4 at the free throw line in the final minute, while Harrison and Jennings each hit two from the charity stripe to secure the win for the Cougars.
 
Dorn shot 6-for-9 from downtown, totaling a season-high 31 points along with five boards and three assists. Harrison connected on 3-of-5 from behind the arc, finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Jennings chipped in 12 points, four boards, two assists and two steals, while freshman Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) posted nine points. Senior Austin Woods (Milford, Conn.) netted seven points and six boards.
 
The Cougars return to their home court as they host Le Moyne College on Saturday, December 17 at noon at the Newman Center.
