CALDWELL, N.J.- Sophomore
Ahmad Harrison (Newark, N.J.) connected on a career-high five triples as the Caldwell University men's basketball team fell to Le Moyne College 70-64 in a non-conference match-up.
The Cougars fall to 7-4 on the season, while the Dolphins improve to 8-3.
Caldwell got off to a quick start as Harrison and freshman
Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) each connected on a pair of triples in the first six minutes. Freshman
Ruud Lutterman (Gorinchem, Netherlands) added two buckets in the paint as the Cougars raced out to a 16-5 lead with 14:03 left in the opening half.
The Cougars held leads between six and 10 points over the next nine minutes. Harrison's fourth three-pointer of the game gave Caldwell a 30-21 lead with 5:35 remaining in the half. Le Moyne rallied to close the half as they cut into the Caldwell lead. Harrison added a triple as the Cougars still led by two points at 33-31 at halftime.
Le Moyne took their first lead of the game at the 14:50 mark of the second half. The Cougars rallied to retake the lead. Junior
Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) drained a triple and added a lay-up, while Jennings scored in the paint to put Caldwell back in front at 48-42 at the 12:35 mark.
The teams traded points over the next two minutes with freshman
Daan Vianen (Nieuwegein, Netherlands) draining a triple at the 10:09 mark for a 53-48 lead.
The Dolphins rallied to close the game as they took the lead on a free throw with 8:25 to go in the game. Le Moyne extended their lead to five points at 59-54 with 6:37 remaining in the game.
The Cougars battled back as Jennings connected on a triple and a lay-up to keep Caldwell close. Dorn drained 3-of-4 free throws with just over two minutes remaining as Caldwell cut the score down to 64-62.
The teams traded points as Harrison picked up a steal and scored on the fast break to keep their deficit at two points with just over a minute to play. Le Moyne connected on four free throws over the final minute of the game as the Cougars came up short.
Harrison led the way with a career-high five triples. He shot 5-for-8 from downtown, finishing with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Jennings chipped in 16 points and four rebounds. Dorn totaled 14 points, four assists and two boards. Lutterman posted 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.
The Cougars travel to Southern Connecticut St. University on Monday, December 19 for a 1 pm contest.
