CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University women's basketball junior
Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, Mass.) netted a season-high 20 points as the Cougars defeated St. Thomas Aquinas College 79-54. The Cougars stretch their winning streak to four as they improve to 7-1 on the season, while the Spartans fall to 6-2.
The Cougars got off to a fast start as they jumped out to an 11-point lead midway through the opening quarter. O'Driscoll posted six points, while senior
Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, N.Y.) added seven points to put Caldwell up 17-6 at the 4:14 mark.
The Spartans trimmed the score down to four points at 24-20 early in the second quarter but Caldwell maintained the lead. St. Thomas Aquinas again closed the gap four points late in the first half at 31-27 with 2:34 on the clock. The Cougars answered with a triple by junior
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, N.Y.) and fast break lay-up by sophomore
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, N.J.) with under a minute to play to lead 36-29 at the break.
The Cougars pulled away in the third quarter as they outscored the Spartans 24-10 to build a double-digit lead at 60-39. O'Driscoll posted a big quarter with 10 points, while Pilla (two triples), Drogsler, and Lennon all connected from downtown to give the Cougars a commanding lead. Caldwell maintained a comfortable lead into the fourth quarter and to the final buzzer.
O'Driscoll shot 10-for-11 from the field, finishing with 20 points and six rebounds, while Drogsler tallied 17 points, six boards, seven assists and four steals. Pilla chipped in 13 points and four boards, while junior
Maura Kelty (Barrington, R.I.) totaled 10 points and six rebounds. Lennon added six points and six assists.
The Cougars are back to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play as they travel to Post University on Monday, December 5 for a 5:30 pm start time.
