Arnshed’s Late Goal Sends Men’s Soccer into the CACC Semifinals

CALDWELL, N.J.- Freshman Stefan Arnshed (Trelleborg, Sweden) headed in a goal late in the second half as the Caldwell University men's soccer team earned a 2-1 win against Nyack College in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Quarterfinals. The Cougars advance to the CACC Semifinals on Friday, November 4 when they face the #8 seed Post University on the campus of Georgian Court University.
 
Caldwell improves to 8-7-3 overall, while the Warriors end their season at 8-10-0.
 
The teams battled through a hard-fought first half that ended with no goals. The Cougars controlled the offensive possessions as they held the edge in the shots 11-3 over the first 45 minutes of play.
 
Caldwell broke the scoreless game in the 59th minute as Arnshed's side line throw-in was flicked on net by junior Martin Djikanovic (Podgorica, Montenegro) and found its way into the net for a Cougars 1-0 lead.
 
Nyack pulled even in the 84th minute as they also tied the game on a sideline throw-in play to even the score at 1-1 with 6:25 to play in the second half.
 
The Cougars answered less than two minutes later as junior Sam Odell (Walton-On-Thames, England) took a corner kick that Arnshed headed into the net for the eventual game-winner. Nyack had a couple of late scoring chances, including a shot that went high three minutes to play but the Cougars held on for a postseason victory.
 
In net, junior Fritz Meister (Flaach, Switzerland) posted one save in the game
 
The Cougars are back in the CACC Semifinals for the second time in three seasons. Caldwell faces the #8 seed Post University on Friday, November 4 at 11:00 am on the campus of Georgian Court University.
