Men’s Soccer Comes Up Short to Concordia

CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University men's soccer team came up short of a late comeback as they fell to the Concordia College Clippers 4-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.

The Cougars fall to 4-6-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the CACC, while the Clippers improve to 6-4-0 and 5-2-0 in conference play.

The teams battled through a fast playing game for 90 minutes in a highly competitive contest. Concordia took the early lead as they netted a late first half goal for a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Caldwell pulled even early in the second half as sophomore Joaquin Escuedero (San Sebastian, Spain) hammered home the equalizer off an assist from junior Jesper Stenberg (Taby, Sweden) in the 53rd minute. The Clippers retook the lead in the 62nd minute but the Cougars battled back late in the half.

Escudero chipped a solid ball to sophomore Tom Yorston (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom) as Caldwell tied the game at 2-2 in the 76th minute.

Concordia pulled away in the final minutes as they took the lead for good in the 82nd minute and added an insurance goal in the final minute of the game.

In net, junior Fritz Meister (Flaach, Switzerland) totaled five saves in the game.

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, October 11 as they host Dominican College in a CACC clash at 4 pm at Caldwell Field.
