CALDWELL, N.J.- Junior goal keeper
Fritz Meister (Flaach, Switzerland) tied his season-high with nine saves as the Caldwell University men's soccer team blanked the Dominican College Chargers in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game. The Cougars improve to 5-6-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the CACC, while the Chargers drop to 4-9-0 and 3-5-0 in conference action.
The Cougars struck first as freshman
Stefan Arnshed (Trelleborg, Sweden) headed in a goal off a corner kick by sophomore
Joaquin Escudero (San Sebastian, Spain) in the 11th minute.
Caldwell tacked on another goal late in the opening half as Escudero set up the Cougars second goal in the 31st minute. He dribbled in from the left side, crossed to freshman
Darren Appanah (Enfield, England), who chipped in past the keeper for a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Cougars added an insurance goal midway in the second half as Escudero and Appananh teamed up against for the latter's fourth goal of the season and second of the game.
Caldwell was efficient with their shot, taking five shots on goal and scoring three times. Dominican held the edge on shots 21-13 and shot on goal 9-5, while Caldwell held the advantage in corner kicks 9-3.
Meister turned in an outstanding effort in net as the junior keeper finished with nine saves and his second shutout of the season.
The Cougars hit the road this weekend as they travel to Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday, October 15 for a 2:45 pm CACC contest.
