WATERBURY, Conn.- The Caldwell University men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season as they battled to a scoreless draw against Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game. The Cougars will await the final conference results later this week to see who they will face in the CACC Championship First Round on Tuesday.
The Cougars move to 7-7-3 and 6-3-2 in the CACC, while the Eagles stand at 5-7-4 and 4-3-4 in conference play.
Shots came at a premium in the opening half as the teams combined for six total shots and none on goal.
The Eagles had the advantage in shots in the second half 9-4 with four shots on goal. Junior goal keeper
Fritz Meister (Flaach, Switzerland) posted four saves in the second half to preserve the scoreless tie and force overtime.
The Cougars turned in a solid first overtime effort with three corner kicks and two late shots that did not find the back of the net.
In the second overtime, Caldwell totaled three shots in overtime that missed their mark. Sophomore
Joaquin Escudero (San Sebastian, Spain) took two shots, including one with about 30 seconds left that was saved. The Eagles took a shot as time expired but Meister again came up with a clutch save as the game ended tied 0-0.
Meister finished with five saves in the game as he earned his third shutout of the season.
The Cougars have secured a berth in the CACC Championship. Caldwell will await the results from this week's conference games that will determine their seed and opponent. The CACC Championship First Round game will be held on Tuesday, November 1.
