CALDWELL, N.J.- Sophomore
Joaquin Escudero (San Sebastian, Spain) netted a pair of goals to lead the Caldwell University men's soccer team to a 3-1 win against Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.
The Cougars improve to 6-7-2 and 5-3-2 in the CACC, while the Warriors fall to 6-8-0 and 5-5-0 in conference play.
Caldwell struck first as the Cougars were award a free kick about 30 yards out on the right side of the field. Escudero booted the ball to the far side of the net and it found its way into the net for a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. The Cougars held their lead into halftime despite Nyack holding the edge in shots 8-5.
The Cougars added a pair of quick goals early in the second half to extend their lead. In the 55th minute, freshman
Darren Appanah (Enfield, England) took a shot in front of the net that was save and deflected to senior
Jesper Stenberg (Taby, Sweden) who kicked it into the net for his first goal of the season.
Caldwell struck again less than two minutes later as sophomore
Tom Yorston (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom) crossed the ball into the box that Escudero chipped past the goal keeper for a 3-0 lead.
Nyack broke the shutout in the 70th minute as they scored their lone goal of the contest. Caldwell edged the Warriors in second half shots 9-4 and the Cougars finished with the overall shot advantage 14-12. The Cougars held the edge in corner kicks 3-2.

Fritz Meister (Flaach, Switzerland) recorded three saves in 90 minutes in net.
Prior to the game, the Cougars honored its six graduating seniors. Seniors

Jakub Havlak (Prague, Czech Republic), Stenberg,
Ole-Anders Wendelborg (Drammen, Norway),
Aidan Groll (Boonton, N.J.) and
Eric Broderick (West Keansburg, N.J.) were recognized for their outstanding Cougar careers.
The Cougars travel to Holy Family University for a CACC clash on Saturday, October 22 at 2:30 pm
