CALDWELL, N.J.- Sophomore
Emily Valerian (Roseland, N.J.) netted a hat trick, while sophomore
Carlyn Salus (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) added a pair as the Caldwell University women's soccer team tallied a season-high seven goals in a 7-3 victory against Dominican College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
The Cougars improve to 7-6-1 overall and 6-2-0 in the CACC, while the Chargers drop to 4-9-0 and 4-5-0 in conference play.
Caldwell took the early lead as Salus scored in the 10th minute for a 1-0 lead. Freshman
Meghan Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) added to the Cougar lead 92 seconds later as she chipped in a goal off an assist from Salus.
Dominican sliced the score in half as they tallied a goal off a free kick. Salus answered for the Cougars in the 13th minute. Grundhauser crossed the ball into the box and Salus chipped it into the net for a 3-1 Caldwell lead.
The Chargers added a goal in the 24th minute to close the gap to 3-2. Caldwell once against responded as sophomore
Gianna Klucker (Tamins, Switzerland) netted her fourth goal of the season off an assist from senior
Jessica Garretson (Atco, N.J.) for a 4-2 lead.
Dominican posted their final goal of the afternoon in the 37th minute to against make it a one goal game at 4-3. Valerian netted the first of her three in the game in the 40th minute as the Cougars led 5-3 at halftime.
Valerian tallied two more second half goals as she added to the Cougars lead in the 63rd and 72nd minute of play.
In net, senior
Kylie Whalen (Hazlet, N.J.) played over 59 minutes between the two halves, recording two saves and earning the win. Freshman
Daniela Lucca (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) played 30 minutes in net in the first half and also posted two saves.
Caldwell travels to Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday, October 15 for a CACC contest at 12:30 pm.
