LAKEWOOD, N.J.- Caldwell University volleyball junior
Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) totaled 36 kills but the Cougars fell in a pair of matches at the Georgian Court University tri-match. Caldwell fell to the host Lions 3-2 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match and lost to Southern Connecticut St. University 3-1.
In the loss to the Lions, Georgian Court took the opening set 25-23 but the Cougars rallied to even the match with a 25-21 win in set two. The Lions edged Caldwell in the third set 27-25 but the Cougars battled back to force a deciding set, winning 25-15 in set four. Georgian Court took the match 15-13 in the fifth set.
Janssen led the way with 23 kill and six total blocks, while junior
Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) posted 18 kills and 14 digs. Freshman
Avery Stanechewski (Tampa, Fla.) tallied a career-best 16 kills with two total blocks in the loss.
Sophomore
Jordan Hoffman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the Cougars with 45 assists along with four kills, three blocks and seven digs, while junior
Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, Texas) added 16 assists and eight digs. Sophomore
Melanie Krpec (Katy, Texas) totaled four kills and 14 digs, while freshman
Kathleen Compagno (Orland Park, Ill.) finished with five kills and five blocks. Junior
Jessica Mitchell (Plainfield, Ill.) tallied a match-high 40 digs. Â
In their second match of the afternoon, the Owls took the first two sets 25-15 and 25-20. Caldwell battled back to take the third set 25-17 but fell in the fourth set 25-22.
Janssen again led the way with 13 kills along with four total blocks, while Auyong added 10 kills, 16 digs and two blocks. Stanechewski chipped in six kills and four blocks, while Compagno added four kills, three blocks and four digs. Hoffman tallied 26 assists and 12 digs, while Mitchell posted a match-best 26 digs.
