Pilla Nets 19 Points as Women’s Basketball Downs USciences

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Junior Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY) dropped in a team-high 19 points as the Caldwell University women's basketball team defeated the University of the Sciences 74-59 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action.

The Cougars improve to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in the CACC, while the Devils fall to 3-11 and 4-3 in conference play. 

The teams traded points for most of the opening quarter as the Devils led by two late in the quarter. The Cougars ripped off the final eight points, powered by a pair of triples by Maura Kelty and Kristen Drogsler, to lead 17-11. 

Caldwell pushed ahead by as much as 11 points in the second quarter following a Karlie O'Driscoll lay-up at the 3:42 mark. USciences closed late as the Cougars led 32-26 at the break. 

The Devils rallied in the second half as they closed the gap to three points at 36-33 at the 7:24 mark. The Cougars pulled away with a 19-7 run to extend their lead into double digits. Pilla chipped in eight points, including a pair of triples, while Drogsler converted a three-point play as Caldwell pulled ahead 55-40 late in the third quarter. Caldwell maintained their lead into the final quarter as they took home their five conference victory of the season.

For the Cougars, Pilla led the way with 19 points, while Drogsler chipped in 15 points, six boards, five assists and two blocks. O'Driscoll posted 11 points and seven rebounds, while Sharell Sanders finished with eight points, seven boards, four assists and two steals.

The Cougars return to the Newman Center for their first home game of 2016 as they take on Wilmington University on Saturday, January 9 at 1 pm.
