PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Junior
Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY) netted a season-high 24 points to lead Caldwell University women's basketball team to a 69-57 win against Holy Family University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action.
The Cougars win their fifth in a row as they improve to 15-7 overall and 10-3 in the CACC. The Tigers fall to 15-6 and 10-2 in conference play.
Holy Family took a 6-2 lead in the first two and a half minutes of the game. Caldwell responded with a 17-2 run that stretched into the second quarter as they pulled ahead by double digits. Pilla netted eight points including a pair of triples in the run as the Cougars took a 19-8 lead early in the second quarter.
The Tigers trimmed the score down to four points at 25-21 near the midway point of the second quarter. Caldwell closed the half with 13-2 run to push their lead back to double digits. Pilla netted two more three pointers in the run to close out a 16-point first half for the junior guard to power a 38-23 lead at halftime.
The Cougars maintained their lead into the second half as the Tigers got as close as seven points late in the fourth quarter. Holy Family cut the score to 56-49 with 3:04 left in the game but Pilla netted a triple to push the lead back to double digits. Caldwell hit four free throws in the final minute to hold off a late rally by the Tigers.
For the Cougars, Pilla drained five triples on her way to scoring a season-high 24 points along with five rebounds. Sophomore
Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, NY) chipped in 12 points, six rebounds and three assists, while sophomore
Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, MA) totaled six points, seven rebounds and three steals. Freshman
Andie Lennon (Secaucus, NJ) tallied three rebounds, four assists and six steals, while senior
Nicole Angelo (Mt. Laurel, NJ) dished out six assists.
The Cougars return to the Newman Center on Wednesday, February 3 as they host Nyack College in a CACC clash at 6 pm.
