Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Post

CALDWELL, N.J.- Senior Nicole Angelo (Mt Laurel, NJ) led four players in double figures as the Caldwell University women's basketball team earned their fourth win in a row 86-52 against Post University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
 
The Cougars improve to 14-7 overall and 9-3 in the CACC, while the Eagles fall to 0-19 and 0-10 in conference play.
 
Caldwell built an 18-10 lead late in the opening quarter powered by three trifectas.  Sophomore Kristen Drogsler (Middle Village, NY), junior Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY) and freshman Andie Lennon (Secaucus, NJ) all connected from downtown, while sophomore Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, MA) converted a three-point play to pace the Cougars.
 
Post trimmed the score down to four points but the Cougars scored the next six to push their lead to double digits. The Eagles cut it back to eight points but Angelo drained a triple to push the lead back to double figures at 27-16 after one quarter of play.
 
Caldwell extended their lead in the second quarter as they pulled ahead by as much as 19 points at 39-20 following an Angelo trifecta. The Cougars solid play continued into the second half as they outscored the Eagles in all four quarters to earn their fourth consecutive victory.
 
The Cougars shot 43.7% from the field to the Eagles' 37.9%. Caldwell also held the advantage in three-point shooting 43.5%-27.9%, while forcing a season-high 32 turnovers. The Cougars also posted season-highs with 17 steals and nine blocks as a team.
 
For the Cougars, Angelo shot 3-for-5 from downtown, finishing with 15 points, three assists and three steals. Drogsler also shot 3-for-5 from behind the arc as she tallied 13 points, six rebounds, six assists and three blocks. Sophomore Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, MA) chipped in 12 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals, while O'Driscoll totaled 11 points and three boards. Pilla posted seven points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
 
The Cougars hit the road this weekend as they travel to Holy Family University on Saturday, January 30 for a 1 pm tip.
