CALDWELL, N.J.- Freshman
Tom Yorston (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom) netted his first two collegiate goals but the Caldwell University men's soccer team lost to Molly College 3-2 in overtime in their home opener. The Cougars fall to 0-3-0 on the season, while the Lions improve to 2-0-0.
The Cougars had a strong first half as goalie
Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ) was tested early in the contest. Hartmann faced a penalty shot in the fourth minute and made a critical early save for Caldwell. The Cougars has some early chances to score and finally found the back of the net in the 28th minute.
Caldwell had a corner kick go long but
Italo Cardoso (Monroe, NJ) saved it from going out of bounds and gave a quick pass to Yorston who booted it in from close range for a 1-0 lead.
The Cougars struck again early in the second half as the Molloy goalie saved the first shot but Yorston was there for the rebound to score his second of the afternoon.
The Lions rallied in the final two minutes of the game as they scored on the a penalty kick in the 70 minute and found the equalizer with just under nine minute to play in regulation.
Caldwell had a good attempt early in the first overtime but it deflected off the cross bar. Molloy countered and scored off a cross from the left side for the game-winner.
For the Cougars, Yorston shined in defeat with a pair of goals, while Cardoso registered one assist. In net, Hartmann recorded 14 saves.
Caldwell hits the road this Saturday, September 12 as they travel to Mercy College for a 3 pm match.
