LAKEWOOD, N.J.- The Caldwell Women's Volleyball team kicked off their 2015-16 season on a positive note as they defeated Roberts Wesleyan University and Stonehill College at the Georgian Court Tournament. The Cougars downed the Red Hawks 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-20) and capped the day with a thrilling 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-9) win over the Skyhawks.
In the season opening win over Roberts Wesleyan, sophomore
Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) led the way with 10 kills and four blocks. Senior
Kelsey Blankerts (Sylvania, OH) added six kills, three aces and three blocks. Sophomore
Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, TX) netted 14 assists, while
Jessica Mitchell (Plainfield, IL) totaled 10 digs.
The Cougars took the win over Stonehill, taking the first set 25-20 but fell in the next two 25-20 and 25-21. Caldwell rallied in the final two set as they down the Skyhawks 25-19 and 15-9. Janssen tallied 12 kills and seven blocks, while freshman
Kristin Murrell (Toledo, OH) added 12 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore
Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, HI) totaled 11 kills and 13 digs, while Bennett recorded 21 assists and 12 digs. Blankerts chipped in five kills and three aces, while Mitchell finished with 14 digs.
The Cougars wrap up play at the Georgian Court Tournament as they face Mercy College at noon and Le Moyne College at 2 pm.
