PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Caldwell University women's lacrosse team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game to Philadelphia University, 16-5 Wednesday afternoon at Ravenhill Field. The Cougars are now 3-7 overall and 2-4 in league play, while the Rams improve to 6-6, 4-1 CACC.
Caldwell got off to a good start, scoring the first goal of the game on a tally by freshman midfielder
Kylee Shoop (Triangle, VA/Forest Park) less than two minutes into the first half. After Philadelphia scored twice, the Cougars received back-to-back goals from sophomore midfielder
Christina Gonzalez (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) and freshman attack
Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) to lead 3-2 at the 11:38 mark. But the Rams closed out the half with eight unanswered goals to take a 10-3 lead at the break.
Schenck scored the first goal of the second half and Gonzalez scored the game's final goal, as the Cougars were unable to overcome Philadelphia's first-half scoring spree. Shoop had six ground balls and two caused turnovers, while freshman attack
Daniela Costanzo (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) added an assist and three ground balls. Elizabeth Marrosu scored five goals for the Rams, who won the CACC Tournament last season.
Sophomore goalie
Melissa Garris (Matawan, NJ/Old Bridge) recorded 10 saves in goal for Caldwell, while Maria Matteis had 12 saves for the Rams.
The Cougars continue CACC play with a home game against Georgian Court University on Saturday, Apr. 11. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. at Centennial Field in Verona, N.J.
