VERONA, N.J. – The Caldwell University women's lacrosse team fell to Georgian Court University, 12-7, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday night at Centennial Field. The Cougars drop to 3-8 overall and 2-5 in the conference, while the Lions improve to 8-5, 4-2 CACC.
Georgian Court took control of the game by scoring seven goals over the first 19 minutes to take a 7-0 lead. Freshman attach
Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) and sophomore midfielder
Courtney Donlon (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) scored back-to-back goals for Caldwell before the Lions found the net a minute before halftime for an 8-2 advantage at the break.
Freshmen
Emily Fey (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) and
Kylee Shoop (Triangle, VA/Forest Park) scored goals early in the second half to cut the deficit to 8-4. But Georgian Court came back with four straight goals to pull ahead, 12-4. Donlon made things interesting with three consecutive goals in a seven-minute span, but it was too late to overcome the Lions' early lead.
Sophomore goalie
Melissa Garris (Matawan, NJ/Old Bridge) registered five saves for Caldwell, while Amanda Cathcart had 10 saves for Georgian Court, which held a slim 23-21 edge in shots.
The Cougars play another home CACC match on Tuesday, Apr. 14, as Wilmington University visits Centennial Field. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
