Cougars Lacrosse Falls to Wilmington in CACC Finale

VERONA, N.J. – The Caldwell University women's lacrosse team lost to Wilmington University, 18-9 in the final Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match of the season Tuesday afternoon at Centennial Field. The Cougars (3-9 overall) complete their conference schedule with a 2-6 record, while the Wildcats improve to 6-9 overall, 5-2 CACC.

Freshman midfielders Emily Fey (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) and Kylee Shoop (Triangle, VA/Forest Park) scored goals in the first four minutes of the game for an early 2-0 Caldwell lead. After Wilmington scored three straight goals, Shoop and freshman attack Jessica Minuto (Levittown, NY/Division Avenue) answered to make the score 4-3 Cougars. The Wildcats tallied three of the next four goals, but Fey found the net just before halftime to tie the score at 6-6 at the end of the half.

In the second half, sophomore Courtney Donlon (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) answered a pair of Wilmington goals with two goals of her own to tie the score at 8-8 with 23 minutes left. But the Wildcats took control of the game from that point on, scoring 10 of the next 11 goals to cruise to victory. Minuto had Caldwell's other goal in the second half.

Sophomore goalie Melissa Garris (Matawan, NJ/Old Bridge) recorded eight saves for Caldwell, while Corinne Dries tallied 14 saves for Wilmington.

The Cougars complete the season on Thursday, Apr. 16 with a non-conference game at Queens College. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Flushing, N.Y.
