PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Caldwell University softball team totaled 19 runs in a pair of five-inning victories over Philadelphia University, 8-0 and 11-3 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at the Philadelphia University Softball Field. The Cougars improve to 11-9 overall and 5-1 in the conference, while the Rams fall to 14-16, 7-5 CACC.
In the first game, Caldwell scored all eight of its runs on eight hits in the third inning. Senior
Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea) hit a two-run double, while junior
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Reg.) plated runs with a double and single in the same inning. Junior
Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL/Dwyer), sophomores
Amy Hickman (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) and
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, FL/Jupiter) and freshman
Kiahna Silva (Etiwanda, CA/Etiwanda) each drove in runs.
Junior pitcherÂ
Amber Padilla (Chino, CA/Pomona Catholic) blanked the Rams on two hits over four innings to improve to 7-3. Senior
Sarah Almasy (Stratford, NJ/Sterling) pitched a scoreless fifth inning in relief. McCready and Reighn each went 3-for-3.
The Cougars used the long ball to its advantage in Game 2, as senior
Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) and freshmen
Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Twp.) and
Kortney Craker (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills) each homered. Craker hit a three-run home run in the fourth, while Monasseri and Calderon had two-run homers in the third and fifth innings, respectively. Calderon went 3-for-3 with a double, a homer and three RBIs, while Craker and Monasseri both went 2-for-2. Knorr also hit an RBI double in the fifth.
Sophomore pitcher
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) allowed an unearned run on three hits while walking four and fanning four in four innings.
