Cougar Lacrosse Earns CACC Victory Over Nyack, 14-12

NYACK, N.Y. – Freshman midfielder Emily Fey (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) scored four goals to lead the Caldwell University women's lacrosse team to a 14-12 triumph over Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Monday afternoon at Mosley Field. The Cougars snapped a five game losing streak to improve to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in league play. The Warriors fall to 3-7, 1-3 CACC.

With the score tied at 4-4 at the 19-minute mark of the first half, Caldwell reeled off five consecutive goals to take control of the game, 9-4 with seven minutes left in the period. Freshman midfielder Kylee Shoop (Triangle, VA/Forest Park) scored twice, while sophomore midfielder Christina Gonzalez (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly), freshman attack Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) and Fey also scored in the run. Nyack responded with three goals before halftime to make the score 9-7 Cougars at the break.

After Nyack's Alyssa Paddock made it a one-goal game with her tally 18 seconds into the second half, Shoop, Gonzalez and freshman attack Daniela Costanzo (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) each found the net to give Caldwell a 12-8 edge with 23 minutes left. The teams exchanged goals over the next 18 minutes to make the score 14-11 Cougars before Nyack pulled within two with a goal at the 3:15 mark. But Caldwell kept the Warriors off the scoreboard the rest of the way to earn its third win of the season.

Fey, who also had an assist, leads the Cougars with 18 goals this season. Shoop finished with three goals, three ground balls and three draw controls, while sophomore defender Amanda Timmes (Pine Beach, NJ/Toms River South) tallied four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Sophomore goalie Melissa Garris (Matawan, NJ/Old Bridge) made five saves in goal for Caldwell, while Nyack's Madeline Barbarino notched 11 saves, as Caldwell held a 31-22 advantage in shots.

The Cougars continue CACC play with a game at Philadelphia University on Wednesday, Apr. 8, beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
