No. 18 Cougars Top Bloomfield, 3-1

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Caldwell University softball team completed a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference sweep of Bloomfield College with a 3-1 victory Thursday afternoon at Clark's Pond Field. The victory came in the second game with Bloomfield after the Cougars defeated the Bears, 8-6 back on Apr. 14. Caldwell, ranked 18th nationally, improves to 25-11-1 overall and 18-2 in the conference, while the Bears fall to 22-18-1, 12-12 CACC.

The Cougars generated all the offense they would need in the first inning, as senior Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea) and junior Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL/Dwyer) led off the game with a double and a bunt single, respectively. After McCready stole second, freshman Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Twp.) singled to score both runners for a 2-0 lead. Bloomfield scored in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one-run game. But that's as close as the Bears would get, as Caldwell added a run in the seventh on an RBI single from freshman Kortney Craker (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills) that plated McCready.

Junior Amber Padilla (Chino, CA/Pomona Catholic) went the distance for Caldwell, holding Bloomfield to one run on five hits while striking out 10 and walking two to improve to 12-5. McCready went 3-for-4 with two runs, a double and a triple, while Craker had two hits.

The Cougars host Chestnut Hill College in a CACC doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 24, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
