PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Caldwell University women's lacrosse team lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match to Chestnut Hill College, 17-8 Saturday afternoon at Victory Field. The Cougars drop to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in league play, while the Griffins improve to 3-5, 1-1 CACC.
Sophomore midfielder
Christina Gonzalez (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) opened the scoring five minutes into the game for a 1-0 Caldwell lead. After Chestnut Hill scored twice, freshman attack
Jessica Minuto (Levittown, NY/Division Avenue) tied the score at 2-2 with a goal at the 18:33 mark. The Griffins took control of the game by scoring six of the next seven goals to take an 8-3 halftime lead.
In the second half, momentum stayed with Chestnut Hill, as the Griffins tallied three straight goals to lead 11-3. The Cougars answered with three goals of their own, as freshman midfielder
Kylee Shoop (Triangle, VA/Forest Park), Gonzalez and freshman attack
Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) found the net to make the score 11-6. But Chestnut Hill put the game out of reach with five consecutive goals for a commanding 16-6 advantage.
The Griffins outshot Caldwell, 34-22 as sophomore goalie
Melissa Garris (Matawan, NJ/Old Bridge) recorded nine saves for the Cougars. Shoop finished with three goals, while Schenck and freshman defender
Catherine Ringhoff (East Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) tallied four ground balls each. Katie Joe Lang also made nine saves for Chestnut Hill.
Caldwell hosts Holy Family University in a CACC game on Tuesday, Mar. 31. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Kiwanis Oval in Caldwell, N.J.
