WATERBURY, Conn. – After a winless inaugural season and a loss to Bridgeport yesterday, the Caldwell University women's lacrosse team won for the first time in program history, beating Post University, 12-10 in a non-league game Friday afternoon at LaMoy Field. The Cougars outscored the Eagles, 5-3 in the second half to secure the historic victory.
Trailing 5-3 midway through the first half, back-to-back goals by freshman midfielder
Emily Fey (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) and sophomore midfielder
Courtney Donlon (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) knotted the score at 5-5 with 8:12 left in the half. After Miranda Polaski scored for Post, Fey found the net twice to put the Cougars on top, 7-6 with 13 seconds on the clock. Polaski beat the buzzer with a goal at the three-second mark to make the halftime score 7-7.

Christina Gonzalez (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) and freshman attack
Pamela Schenck (East Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) scored for the Cougars. Post made a push to get back in the game over the final 14 minutes with three goals, but Caldwell received a goal from Schenck and kept the Eagles from getting any closer to wrap up the program's first win in 14 games.
Sophomore goalie
Melissa Garris (Matawan, NJ/Old Bridge) made four saves to preserve the victory. Post's Kathy Walker stopped 15 Cougar shots, as Caldwell held a 32-17 advantage in shots.
"It feels great to get that first win, we waited a long time," second-year head coach
Amy Rizzo said. "The girls have been working extremely hard and they really came together today. They deserved to win, and we're looking forward to many more."
The Cougars are scheduled to play Post again on Tuesday, Mar. 17 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Waterbury.
